Carterville Chamber of Commerce – Business Spotlight of the Week - Banterra Bank!

Banterra Bank began as a single bank in Ridgway, Illinois in July of 1975.  Since that time, Banterra has grown to $2.3 billion in assets and is ranked in the Top Ten Percent of U.S. Charter Banks and Top Five Percent for Illinois Charter Banks, according to asset size.  Banterra has 40 locations in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and Arizona, including 25 specifically in Southern Illinois. 

Banterra opened a branch in Carterville in 1999 after acquiring Heartland National Bank and it is located at 108 E. Plaza Drive next to the Dairy Queen.  Banterra has been a proud supporter of Tri-C community needs including Christmas In Carterville, Pumpkin Path, Carterville Block Party, Anne West Lindsey District Library, Carterville Schools and Athletics, Carterville Food Pantry, Carterville Chamber of Commerce and Carterville Rotary – just to name a few.  Recently, Banterra contributed $100,000 to SIH Cancer Institute located in Carterville.  In 2019, Banterra became the first corporate naming-rights partner for a SIU athletic facility with the naming of Banterra Center for former SIU Arena.  This was a multi-million dollar agreement, offering up to $10 million for SIU.

Banterra team members who live and work in Carterville are active in the Tri-C community.  Ben Craft, Banterra lender and former chamber president, was named Chamber Member of the Year for 2020.  Jennifer Spence, marketing director for Banterra, is also a developer for downtown property and works closely with the City of Carterville for downtown renovation needs.  In addition to Ben and Jennifer, Banterra employees more than 470 team members with several of those as residence in our Tri-C community including Shane Carsrud, Charity Lantagne, Kaylyn Watts, Tammy Rasor (Concierge Banker at Carterville branch) and many others.  Carterville branch is led by Fern Martin (Banking Center Manager) and Carol Powell (Senior Concierge Banker).
